HOW WE REPAIR AND INSPECT CAST IRON GUTTERS

The first thing we have to do is take a ladder up, to inspect by hand. We are looking for imperfections in the metal and obviously areas that appear wet on the outside too. We can also look for staining on your homes walls, which is a clear sign that the gutter is leaking at that area and usually visible during excessive weather. If we are repairing a single area then it is important to make sure that the gutter is dry, and we would then commence to sand the inside and outside at the area of concern using a steel brush. We then press linseed oil putty into the cracks (from the inside) and apply bitumen paint inside the gutter line and leave this to dry. We may have to replace screws as well, which depends on if they are rusted.

To paint the exterior of your cast iron gutters we will prepare the surface with a wire brush, sandpapers and scrapers. When the surface is smooth, we then use gloss paint to coat them. This is a heavy-duty paint that will stand up to adverse weather and more importantly offers a thick layer of coverage for the gutters.
